Why the Regal Prince® Oak?
Regal Prince Oak is the tall, dark, and handsome tree your landscape has been dreaming of! This strong and sturdy columnar Oak tree is perfect as a specimen where horizontal space is limited, and a row of Regal Prince Oaks along your property line makes an impressive boundary marker and privacy screen. Closely planted, a border of trees will block views and dampen noise and wind. When the wind does blow, the glossy, deep green leaves will flutter gracefully, flashing their pale silvery-green undersides. This hybrid Oak tree adapts to many types of soils and planting conditions and grows just as happily in the country as it does along the mean streets of the city.
Tree hybridizers are patient people. It can take decades to know if a certain cross is worth introducing. Back in 1974, legendary tree man Earl Cully of Jacksonville, Illinois (best known for his much-loved introduction, Heritage® River Birch) collected acorns from a Columnar English Oak × Swamp White Oak cross he’d made. He raised 1,000 seedlings from that batch; only 6 made the cut. Regal Prince® was one of the chosen few, though it didn’t receive the final stamp of approval—a patent of its own—until 2002. Worth the wait.
How to use in the landscape?
Always wanted an Oak tree but never thought you had the room for one? Want and ye shall receive! Strong, narrow and upright branching allows this Oak to be planted in tight, less than typical Oak tree planting locations. Dark green leaves and outstanding form makes this a very unique specimen tree for a landscape of any size.

How To Plant
Regal Prince® Oak has the upswept look of a Columnar English Oak, but it has inherited many improvements from its American Swamp White parent. Whereas English Oak’s leaves are often mildewed by summer, Regal Prince’s® stay squeaky clean. Regal Prince® is also much more cold-hardy than purebred English Oaks (it has endured -30°F without a shiver), and its branches are stronger than just about any tree you can name, as its Swamp White parent has the strongest wood of any oak. This is one sturdy, vigorous, handsome, long-lived, easy-care tree!
How To Water
Water twice weekly for the first 3-5 weeks; then water weekly for the remainder of the year until winter. When you water, water very slowly and very thoroughly. The water needs to reach to the bottom of the root ball and that takes time. Watering needs may be altered due to extreme weather conditions.
How To Fertilize
Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. If planting in the fall, use Elements fertilizer while planting and start your regular annual fertilizing the following fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established as it gives your tree the nutrients it needs to produce lush new growth for the following spring.
How To Prune
A very low maintenance tree, therefore little pruning work is required. Prune as needed in late winter or very early spring while the tree is still dormant.

How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health.. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
